“Most of my recent needs, even holiday shopping, have been met through the Buy Nothing movement or Facebook marketplace. I’m a big fan of repurposing and 2nd hand items, trying to live as minimally as possible, avoid plastic crap, and reduce overall consumption – which can be challenging with kids. This time of year, I can’t help but think about the Story of Stuff and I try to keep that in the forefront. However, I did buy a few new items for the kids for the holidays from a Montessori-based, eco-friendly shop I discovered called, Wild Creek Co. that I’m really excited about!” —Shelly, engagement lead

“In our home we stick to giving our kids four gifts each – something they want, something they need, something they’ll wear, and something they’ll read. Our kids “wear” gifts are from Patagonia because of their mission to “build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis.” — Cris, photographer

“I recently purchased a pair of Nisolo boots for myself and I couldn’t be more thrilled with my purchase. Not only are the boots comfortable and fashionable, but my purchase is supporting a certified Benefit Corporation. As a B Corp, Nisolo fights for a sustainable and ethical future for the fashion industry.” —Emma, accounts manager

“I think one of mine would be Askov Finlayson. Cool, winter-inspired stuff and they give 110% of their “climate cost” of production and running the business to organizations developing climate change solutions.” —Gavin, founding partner

I like to support artists & crafters directly when possible. See if your favorite maker on Instagram has an online store, or commission an artist to create something unique for a loved one! There’s nothing like receiving something one-of-a-kind. Etsy is an easy way to connect with artists directly and even get custom gifts made. You will find unique treasures that you could never find on amazon, all while supporting small businesses and individual makers.” —Courtney, creative lead
